March From The Past

Looking back over the years at what was happening in the month of March.

It’s March already. Where did January and February go? Have a seat and a cup of Earl Grey and let’s look at some newspaper articles from Marches of the past.

Ham de Fillets Recipe, The Boston Globe (Boston, MA), March 27, 1895

The recipe doesn’t sound terrible at all, but is the title supposed to make this sound fancier?

Cranberry Puffs Recipe, The Boston Globe (Boston, MA), March 24, 1895

Another recipe that sounds quite nice. I do love some good cranberry recipes. As always, if a reader does in fact prepare these recipes, please let us know how it turned out in the comments below.

Miss Nora Hayes Appearing…, Illustrated Daily News (Los Angeles, CA), March 1, 1926

Great lineup at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles. Comedians, singers, jugglers, and more! Don’t forget Miss Nora Bayes and her powerfully beautiful voice, no doubt singing “Shine On Harvest Moon”. She passed away just over two years after this performance.

Irving Bernstein Saves Family, The Brooklyn Daily Eagle (Brooklyn, NY), April 15, 1934

Irving Bernstein: the four year old hero. Plain and simple. Hope this young man lived a great life.

Amarillo Hotel & Coffee Shop Advertisement, The Amarillo News Globe (Amarillo, Texas), March 30, 1941

Some dishes may be more appetizing than others, but the basic gist of the menu seems nice.
